Zoom Has Changed The Game

Many of us have separated our lives at home and our lives in public much like we separate church and state… We take into careful consideration of how we look and interact whilst we are among our colleagues, friends, and family. Checking your breath and combing that hair before letting an eye see you.

However, our home is our haven. We become the embodiment of comfort, wearing whatever we grab first and throw caution to the wind! Dim lighting, creating a very calm space to vibe, and music playing in the background.

For most of us, this is more than just a motto, it’s like a line out of the 9-5’ers good book… thou shall not bring work home!

This brings us to the introduction of March 2020… a time where many of America repurposed our spare rooms into home offices, breaking the most fundamental rule… thou shall not bring work home!

Here is where things get dangerous! We must uphold a professional look when we are leaving the house every day. Now the office is at home...

That standard has forever changed with the introduction of Zoom into our professional society. We now have to translate everything we learned about in-person selling or in-person servicing into the new virtual world.

As this era of at-home offices takes hold, let’s maintain control of one basic necessity in doing good business. Uphold the etiquette…

There are ways to keep your virtual image intact, even when you’re not super tech-savvy and in our day and age… you don’t have a choice not to!

Zoom Etiquette 101

Consider some of the small things you can do:

1. Personal hygiene didn’t go away.

Please keep brushing your hair and teeth!

2. Lighting is everything!

No one wants to talk to cave people… they want to see your face!

3. Practice makes perfect.

Don’t let your first call ever be with an important client.

4. Look into the camera, it won’t bite :)

This is still a real conversation, so eye contact is important.

5. Bring your “A” game!

Prepare for each meeting just the same as you would in person.

6. Be on-time!

Punctuality isn’t just a courtesy to show when meeting for coffee.

7. Have the right tools for the job.

If you need a new camera or mic, go get them.
